FAQs

How do I join a Camp Without Borders trip?

Have you ever dreamed of setting out on a road trip with a new group of friends? Ever wondered what it’s like to take part in activities such as surfing, white water rafting or maybe even a world class music festival? Well you’re in luck, Camp Without Borders is a free travel program for young adults (18 to 35 years old) with medical illnesses and disabilities. We use travel as a platform to create social networks and make lasting memories. Each trip is adapted to the abilities of the group and supported by qualified volunteers. We have a great list of exciting upcoming trips! To apply please complete our participant application.

How do you choose the participants for trips?

Each participant is chosen on a case to case basis. We do our best to match up the participants social, emotional and physical needs with the dynamics of the various trips. Factors to consider are accessibility of the trip, medical needs, number of days away from home, behavioral support needed, volunteer support, etc. If a participant isn’t chosen for one trip we will make efforts to match them with a future trip that better suits their needs.

What does the support look like on a Camp Without Borders trips?

We provide roughly a 50/50 ratio of participants to volunteers on all of our trips and day programs. This high ratio of volunteers helps us create the inclusive and supportive atmosphere Camp Without Borders strives to achieve. We provide qualified volunteers that are in the same age bracket as participants which increases peer to peer connections. On our trips young adults of all abilities share a travel experience and make lasting friendships.

What is the age group of participants?

We accept young adults 18-35 years old.

Is the trip truly free?

Yes, every trip is 100% free of charge for all participants and volunteers. For our multi day trips, we do ask for a $100.00 deposit once a participant has been selected. Rest assured, this deposit will be returned after the trip.

How many trips can I take part in?

We have a high demand for our multi day trips therefore we make an effort to offer placements to individuals who haven’t been on a previous trip. However, many of the day programs allow for higher numbers and provide an opportunity for young adults from past trips to take part and reunite.

How do I apply?

If you would like to apply to a future trip please fill out our participant application.
